Project background: 

The National Transport Master Plan was prepared in order to provide the framework for the financing of the future development of the transport sector. The study was performed in two phases: The first phase focused on the development of strategic options to promote a national integrated transport system, based on the comparative economic advantages, national economic priorities, and overall poverty reduction strategies. The second phase developed a long-term prioritised investment programme consistent with the national transport strategy developed in phase 1.

Objectives: 

The global objective of the study was to prepare a National Transport Master Plan for the Government of Ethiopia which should provide the framework for the financing of the future development of the transport sector

 Collection, compilation and assessment of information / data relevant to policy and strategies Assessment and strategy development concerning the institutional, legal and policy framework in all transport sub-sectors Assessment and strategy development concerning the regulatory and legislative environment impacting domestic and international traffic Assessment and strategy development concerning poverty, social, cultural and environmental issues In depth studies and strategy development concerning the roads, rail and air transport subsectors Project identification and prioritisation for the development of a 20 year investment programme
